MDCT Scanner at Piyavate Heart Institute
One of Piyavate Hospital’s centers of excellence is their “Perfect Heart Institute”. State-of-the-art facilities at the heart institute include Multi-Detector Spiral Computerized Tomography Scanner (MDCT 64 slices). MDCT is used at the heart center for determining causes of chest pain. The procedure takes only about 30 minutes and is recommended when a physical examination is unable to identify the reason a patient is suffering chest pains. Causes can be as benign as simple anxiety or more serious such as gastrointestinal diseases, lung deseases or heart and coronary diseases.
The MDCT captures 64 x-ray images in a single rotation of the x-ray tube about the patient’s body. The slices are processed by a computer to reconstruct 2-D and 3-D images with motion from any observation angle. The reconstructed images provide graphic detail unavailable by any other method and can be extremely useful in identifying causes of chest pain.
